Resilience After Betrayal: What I Learned the Hard Way

I’m not going to dress this up. Resilience is not cute. It’s not a motivational poster. It’s not a hashtag. Resilience is the quiet, unglamorous act of getting up one more time when everything in you says to stay down.

What Nobody Tells You About Betrayal

When you experience deep betrayal — from a partner, a friend, a family member, a business relationship — the hardest part isn’t the moment of discovery. The hardest part is the months afterward, when you have to learn who you are without the story you thought you were living.

I write about this in Rose Colored Glasses in a way I’ve never shared publicly before. But here’s what I can say in this space: betrayal strips you down. And in that stripping down, you either discover who you really are — or you spend the rest of your life performing the person you thought you were supposed to be.

The Salon Chair Saved Me

The thing about doing hair is that you can’t hide in it. Every client who sits in that chair is trusting you with their most vulnerable self. You have to show up. You have to be present. You have to care. And in those moments — when I was building someone else’s confidence — I was quietly rebuilding my own.

What Resilience Actually Looks Like

Resilience looks like:

— Making it through one more day when you didn’t think you could

— Showing up for your clients, your kids, your commitments, even when you’re shattered inside

— Allowing yourself to grieve what you lost while refusing to become your grief

— Building something new without knowing yet what it will become

The Other Side

I’m on the other side now. And I want you to know: the other side is real. It’s possible. It’s worth it. I wouldn’t have written Rose Colored Glasses, launched this platform, or become a speaker if I hadn’t been broken open first.

Your breaking point might just be your turning point.
