Hair Extension Myths Debunked: What Your Stylist Wants You to Know
As a national educator for Babe Hair Extensions and salon owner with over a decade in the beauty industry, I’ve heard every hair extension myth in the book. Today, I’m setting the record straight.
Myth #1: Hair Extensions Damage Your Natural Hair
When applied correctly by a certified professional, hair extensions do not damage your natural hair. The key phrase is “certified professional.” The problem occurs when extensions are applied improperly, left in too long, or maintained incorrectly. Always see a trained extension specialist.
Myth #2: Extensions Look Fake
Modern hair extensions — especially the Babe Hair Extensions line I use and teach — are virtually undetectable when matched correctly to your texture, color, and density. The “fake hair” look comes from bad color matching or improper placement, not extensions themselves.
Myth #3: You Can’t Work Out With Extensions
Absolutely not true. You can maintain your active lifestyle with extensions — but you do need to follow proper care protocols. I always advise my clients on how to protect their extensions during workouts, swimming, and high-heat activities.
Myth #4: Extensions Are Only for Long Hair
Extensions are incredible for adding length AND volume. Many of my clients with medium-length hair get extensions specifically for fullness and thickness, not length.
Myth #5: All Extensions Are the Same
There is a significant quality difference between professional-grade extensions and those purchased online or in beauty supply stores. As a Babe Hair Extensions educator, I only work with premium, 100% human Remy hair.
