What It Really Means to Be a Global Beauty Brand in 2026
By Janelle Alexis | Author, Educator & Global Beauty Authority
A lot of stylists tell me they want to be a global brand. And I believe them — the desire is real. But I think most people have a vague, romantic picture of what “global” means, and when I explain what it actually requires, some of them realize they want the result without the work. Let me tell you what it truly means.
Global Is a Mindset Before It’s a Market
Before you have a single international client or follower, you have to think globally. That means creating content that resonates beyond your city, your country, your demographic. It means seeing yourself as an authority who serves a worldwide community, not just your local salon clientele. It means building systems — a website, an email list, digital products, a booking platform — that can serve someone in Seoul as easily as someone in Houston.
You Need Multiple Content Channels
Instagram alone is not a global strategy. A global brand has a strong social media presence across multiple platforms, a content-rich website that ranks in search engines across countries, a podcast or video presence, an email marketing system, and ideally a product, course, or book that can be purchased anywhere in the world. Rose Colored Glasses is available to anyone with an internet connection. That is what “global” looks like in practice.
Education and Credentials Are Your Global Passport
My BS in Business Administration, cosmetology license, and Babe Hair Extensions Educator certification are not just credentials on a website. They are the foundation of trust that allows a stylist in London or a professional in Lagos to engage with my content and book a virtual consultation without ever having met me in person. In a global marketplace, credentials are the signal of trust that transcends geography.
You Must Speak to Specific People, Not Everyone
Paradoxically, the way to reach everyone is to speak to someone. My community knows who I am because I have been radically specific about who I serve and what I stand for. The women who find me in Tokyo and the women who find me in Dallas are finding the same Janelle — authentic, educated, direct, and deeply invested in their transformation. That consistency is the brand.
Visibility Is a Non-Negotiable
You cannot build a global brand from hiding. You have to be willing to show up — on camera, on stage, in print, in podcasts, in collaboration. Every article, every speaking engagement, every interview is a deposit into your global reputation account. This is the work. The brand is built in the showing up, consistently, over time.
